Orange Butter Cookies with Bourbon Orange Glaze

Serves: Makes twelve | Prep: 1 hr, 10 min | Cook: 12 min

Ingredients:

Orange Butter Cookies:
1 cup butter, room temperature
1/2 cup sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 tsp cinnamon
1 1/2 tsp orange zest
2 Tbsp freshly squeezed orange juice

Bourbon Orange Glaze:
1 cup powdered/icing sugar
2 Tbsp freshly squeezed orange juice
2 tsp bourbon
1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Directions:
In a mixer with a paddle attachment cream butter and sugar together. Add vanilla, mix to combine, scrapping down the bowl as needed.  With the mixer on low add flour, cinnamon, and orange zest, until the dough starts to come together. Add orange juice, mix, until the dough comes together.

Pour onto a floured surface and shape into a flat disc. Wrap dough in plastic wrap and chill for at least 1 hour.

Preheat oven 350F/180C. Line two baking trays with baking paper.

On a well-floured surface with a well-floured rolling pin, roll dough out 1/4-inch thick. Cut out dough using a large cookie cutter. Place cookies on the prepared baking tray and bake for 10-12 minutes, until the edges are lightly brown. Transfer to a wire rack and cool completely.

Make the glaze by whisking powdered sugar, orange juice, bourbon, and vanilla together. Spoon on top of cooled cookies and decorate with colored sprinkles.
