Brown Bread
Serves: 1 loaf | Prep: 15 min | Cook: 30 min
Ingredients:
Brown Bread:
2 cups whole meal flour
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup porridge oats
2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup buttermilk
1 egg
1 Tbsp vegetable oil
1 Tbsp molasses/treacle
Directions:
Preheat oven 400F/200C. Line a baking tray with baking paper.
In a bowl mix flours, oats, salt, and baking soda together.
In a jug whisk buttermilk, egg, oil and molasses together.
Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients. Mix all together with a wooden spoon, until combined, the mixture will be wet. Turn out onto a well-floured surface, with floured hands, work the dough into a round disk. Transfer dough onto the prepared tray and cut a cross over the top. Bake for 30-40 minutes. Let cool on a wire rack. Lovely served warm with Irish butter.
